Callie's prognosis is good

The vet just called and said the operation was successful and that Callie is awake and alert. He wants to keep her until mid-day tomorrow.

There was no single object blocking up her intestine. It was just a mass of dried material. She probably had chewed on too many pieces of wood and her gut was clogged up. That'll teach us to let her decide what it is appropriate to chew on. No more Mr. Nice Guys from tomorrow forward...

  1. I'm so glad that Callie will soon be back to normal! You were wise to call the vet and I bet you were happy to get the one who took care of Collette.

Lewis just briefed me on some of the bowel obstructions he operated on, peach seeds, turnip greens. Sometimes he didn't cut the bowel, others, yes.

How long will Callie be in the hospital? Bon courage.

  4. Oh no! I have somehow gotten quite attached to Callie! I hope she's okay. I spent a sleepless night over a pet a few weeks back -- no fun.

  6. Thanks Chris, Mimi, Betty, Claude, and Evelyn. We should be able to bring Callie back home tomorrow. Small dogs heal very quickly and I bet she'll be 100% by the end of the week. Now if we can just figure out how to keep her from eating dried leaves and little pieces of wood in the garden and yard...

  7. I'm glad Callie will be allright. Nothing is more upsetting than than having a sick pet and not knowing whats wrong. Your heart just breaks for them.

  8. I'm glad she'll be OK.

Get her a basket-type muzzle. We use them on our dogs when they go outsize in the yard. We had a little dog that ate all kinds of stuff and the muzzle was the easiest and most effective way to stop it.

She'll be able to bark and pant, but won't be able to eat anything with the muzzle on. It's also very useful for keeping her from chewing on her stitches during her recovery.
