The first robin

Maybe this is the first robin of spring. It's the first one I've noticed here in North Carolina.

It's an American robin, which is related to the merle, the European blackbird. European robins are a different bird entirely.

  3. There is some differentiation among American Robins across the continent, but they all look fairly much the same.

The American Robin is a type of thrush; The European Robin is related to the wren. In the movie "Mary Poppins" Mary sings to a robin, but it's an American Robin. Almost as annoying as Dick Van Dyke's false cockney.

  4. Saw my first pair yesterday. They look so healthy this time of year compared to the end of summer. Raising their babies and scrounging for food every minute of everyday really takes it out of them.
